Description: In August 1996, Southern Methodist University embarked on a new venture and established the SMU Advanced Computer Education Center in Houston's bustling Galleria corridor on the West Loop South. The university's renowned high standards for academic excellence were incorporated into the design and delivery of IT certification courses centered on in-demand technologies from Microsoft and many others. Expanding on the standard daytime class offerings, evening and weekend course schedules were added. Courses and curriculums for Project Management, Microsoft, Unix, Security+, and Cisco CCNA/CCDA offered corporate organizations choices not previously available. From 1996 through 2003, over 10,000 students enrolled in daytime and evening/weekend courses at the Houston facility. In May 2003, amidst the backdrop of a declining economy, SMU was faced with the difficult decision to withdraw from the Houston marketplace.
Recognizing the resulting void in Houston for quality technical and professional development training, Peter Babirad, a founding director for the SMU program purchased the assets of the Houston SMU center and reopened the facility under the name Alphaware Training Centers. Mr. Babirad, as part of the SMU management team was instrumental in the formation of the Houston facility during the explosive growth of IT training in Houston and in Texas. Coupled with this experienced management, the original core instructional staff remains in place to offer you the same high quality level of training delivered under the SMU brand.
